    That's cool and I'm sure some of the "other people" who call themselves gunsmiths will freak out.
    However - you will be Data-Based and that is a definite negative.

    Those wishing to use the CMP Custom Shop must be a customer on file in the CMP system in order for the CMP to receive and work on their rifles.
    Customers must meet the same eligibility requirements as for rifle purchases from the CMP.

        I am data-based too: M1 Garand, late 1943 SA, late 1996 order, receipt early 1997.

        No matter, I am NOT using CMP for anything. Only "data base" on my toys is with USAA, and they have "doomsday" instructions by me to destroy all records, digital or written, if B.S. happens.

          I do have a M1-carbine that needs a repair, after which I will sell it. Trying to find a gunsmith around Los Angeles is like trying to find Swedish bikini girls sneaking over the border.

          And I will be interested to see what other services they offer.
